Knitting Knatters at the Clio Area Branch is an opportunity for novice or experienced knitters to share ideas about projects, get help with problems and learn new techniques. Meet with Karen, the GDL Teen Librarian on Thursday, November 20 from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. Basic knitting instruction with handouts will be provided. Experienced knitters may select a program project or bring a project in progress. For instructions and a materials list click here or in the “Things to Do” link on the right. Registration is preferred and may be made at Clio or by e-mailing teenfusion2008@thegdl.org.

Get ready to create the most gruesome Halloween costume ever!!  On Thursday evening, October 30, at 7:00 PM, the Grand Blanc-McFarlen Branch opens the doors to Frankenstein’s Workshop of Creepy Concoctions. Step into the laboratory to discover the scientific formulas for making blood and other theatrical props to enhance your Halloween attire. Show off your skills as a pumpkin carver by bringing an entry for the great pumpkin carving competition.  It’s a Pre-Halloween monster blast!

 The traveling Wii game moves to the Montrose-Jennings Library today.  With a valid GDL library card, check out Wii Sport or Wii Play and the controls for all the games.  Up to four players can share the Wii Fun, so bring your friends for a Wii Sport round of golf, a bout of boxing, or a few frames of bowling. Wii Play features a shooting gallery, billiards, tank battles and more. Have your own Wii or other game platform? Request your favorite Wii, PlayStation or XBox game and check it out with your library card for seven days.  It’s free!!  The GDL is Wii more than books!

Do great stories make great movies?  Find out when three stories with “Bite” are being screened this week at GDL. Blood and Chocolate by Annette Curtis Klause is the main attraction at Grand Blanc on Wednesday, October 15 at 7:00 PM. Spiderman, created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko, spins his web at Clio on Thursday, October 16 at 6:00 PM. The suspense of Edgar Allan Poe’s The Pit and the Pendulum will chill your bones on Saturday, October 18 at 2:00 PM. Traditional movie refreshment will be served at all performances. A book vs. movie discussion will follow the movie.
