Chase’s Calendar of Events is celebrating more than its usual holidays and anniversaries. This year marks the 50th publication listing world wide historical and contemporary events and remembrances. First published in 1958, containing 32 pages, it found an audience with librarians, teachers, newspaper staff, broadcasters and others needing a descriptive calendar of forthcoming events. Today’s volume has over 12,000 events and happenings, some traditional others submitted by contributors creating their own special days. This unique reference was conceived by two brothers, William and Harrison Chase. Mr. William Chase was for many years the librarian for the Flint Journal. From time to time I will be sharing some of the events found in the 2008 edition.Â
