Chase Events

TeenFusion Librarian| Category: Book of the day, Trivia | 0 Comments

Chase’s Calendar of Events is celebrating more than its usual holidays and anniversaries.  This year marks the 50th publication listing world wide historical and contemporary events and remembrances.  First published in 1958, containing 32 pages, it found an audience with librarians, teachers, newspaper staff, broadcasters and others needing a descriptive calendar of forthcoming events.  Today’s volume has over 12,000 events and happenings, some traditional others submitted by contributors creating their own special days.  This unique reference was conceived by two brothers, William and Harrison Chase.  Mr. William Chase was for many years the librarian for the Flint Journal.  From time to time I will be sharing some of the events found in the 2008 edition.

From the entry on April 29, 2008:

Dale Earnhardt’s Birth Anniversary

National Dance Day

National Hairball Awareness Day

Zipper was Patented 95 Years Ago Today

Birthdays Today:

Andre Kirk Agassi     38

Daniel Day Lewis      51

Michelle Pfeiffer       50

Jerry Seinfeld          54

Debbie Stabenow     58

Carnie Wilson           40

Each entry has a short description of the event and contact information for event coordinators.  The Chase’s Calendar of Events is available for perusal at a nearby Genesee District Library.  Copyright McGraw-Hill Company, Inc., New York, New York, 2008.
