This Week for Teens

Metamorphosis @theGDL is almost complete.  All reading logs need to be finished by Saturday, August 2.   If you have 1000 or more points, don’t forget to order your free paperback book.  The link to the order form can be found on your Metamorphosis @ the GDL log in page.  250 and 500 point level prizes are available at your home library. 

Events for the week include Creative Journaling at Fenton from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM on Thursday, July 31.  Bring your imagination to personalize a journal Meg Cabot style. Teens from Fenton, Gaines and Linden are invited to attend the TAG (Teen Advisory Group) organizational meeting also on Thursday at Fenton, from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM.  Get involved planning teen programming, writing for TeenFusion or the Newsletter.  Your help is needed. 

Mt. Morris is still having lots of Wii Fun this week.  Stop by with your library card for a game of Wii Sport or Wii Play.  Watch the Upcoming GDL Teen Events RSS feed for next week’s location.

Metamorphosis @ theGDL brings more summer entertainment to a branch near you.  Wii fun continues at the Clio Area Branch this week.  Remember your library card to experience Wii Sport or Wii Play.  Part two of Exploring Photography with Terry Green takes place at Davison on Tuesday at 1:30 PM and at Fenton Children’s Center at 4:00 PM.  Mr. Green will provide information on the relationship between your digital camera and the computer.  Create Your Own Graphic Novel workshop with Roku-Shan meets at Grand Blanc-McFarlen on Tuesday, 7:00 PM and Jennings-Montrose on Thursday, 6:00 PM.  Do you have a great idea or two to improve teen library services?  Teens from Davison and Burton Memorial are invited to attend the TAG (Teen Advisory Group) organizational meeting on Wednesday evening at 7:00 PM in Davison.   Joel Tacey’s GameFest returns this week to the Clio Area Branch.  Spend some energy on Dance, Dance Revolution, Guitar Hero and a few surprises beginning at 6:00 PM.  Creative Jounaling will be at the Davison Area Branch on Thursday at 6:30 PM.  Materials for personalizing your journal will be provided.

The Metamorphosis @ theGDL continues with more great summer events.  For reading enthusiasts, the Summer Reading Book Club at Grand Blanc-McFarlen will meet on Tuesday, July 8 at 1:00 PM. 

Bring your camera to Davison at 1:30 PM or Fenton Children’s Center at 4:00 PM for the first of a three part introduction to photography with Terry Green of Billmeier Camera Shop.  On Tuesday, July 8, the program focus is on composition.  Space is limited so register soon at the branch of your choice.

Art Alert for all graphic novel fans!!  Write and draw your own graphic novel when author and illustrator Roku-Shan presents a three week workshop for teens at two GDL locations.  The Grand Blanc-McFarlen program is scheduled for Tuesday, July 8, at 6:00 PM.  Or join Roku-Shan at Montrose on Thursday, July10, at 6:00 PM.

Feeling creative?  Clio is the place to be on Thursday, July 10 at 2:00 PM for Creative Journaling.  Transform a three ring binder into a very personal journal.  Meg Cabot’s tips for journal keeping will help you begin your journaling journey.  Also in Clio at 4:00 PM on Thursday, meet with teens from Clio, Montrose and Flushing to create a TAG.  Teen Advisory Groups will support the GDL by suggesting program ideas, writing for the teen news letter and blog and offering opinions for improving teen services. 

Holy, Gocks it’s Friday!!  Let your imagination soar with this project to morph a plain sock into a very Goth Puppet.  Be at the Fenton Children’s Center at 3:00 PM on July 11 and be prepared to go extremely Goth.

Upcoming Teen Events

The metamorphosis of summer reading continues with events for tweens and teens.  For the week of June 22, build a roller coaster, talk about books or create a memory display.  Join the Ann Arbor Hands-On Museum at Fenton Children’s Center on Monday at 3:30 PM, Grand Blanc-McFarlen on Wednesday at 3:30 PM or the Genesee Valley on Friday at 3:30 PM, when they present the science of roller coasters.  Test your building skills and the force of gravity while constructing a model coaster.  Attention tweens!!  If you’re not booked for summer, Jenn at Grand Blanc-McFarlen has a Summer Reading Book Club at 1:00 PM on Tuesday.  The Davison Area branch has two programs this week.  Wednesday is Tween Talk about Karate, with a guest from PKSA of Davison, a bit of information on South Korea and samples of South Korean food.  On Thursday, take scrap booking to a new dimension with a memory box project.  Basic supplies will be provided, just bring the memories you would like to display.

Wii Fun@Genesee Valley!!

This week the GDL Wii is on location at the Genesee Valley Demonstration Center.  Stop by for a game in either WiiSports or WiiPlay.  But don’t forget you library card.  Each player must check out their own Wiimote/nunchuk with a valid GDL library card.   Wii Fun @Genesee Valley for one week only, then it’s on to another GDL branch.  Have a great game!!

Books Delivered to Your Door

Love to read but can’t get to the library?  The GDL homebound service is available to Genesee County residents.  Books are sent to your home in a special bag via the US Postal Service.  To return the items, just flip over the address label and your postal carrier will deliver it back to the GDL.  For more information contact the Homebound Service Center at 810-732-1120.
