There’s still time for a few good books during summer 2009. Check out Make Waves @Your Library, compiled by the Michigan Center for the Book and the Library of Michigan. It features authors who write about Michigan. One of the authors on the list worked as a page at the GDL Baker Park Library in Burton. Guess who? Watch for a review of his new book, The Tear Collector, in a future blog.

Express Yourself at a GDL Teen Summer Reading event. Summer programs feature you writing, drawing, sculpting and performing. Start with the TeenFusion Talent Show. Get your act together, make a video then upload your audition to our You Tube website. Selected entries will perform live at preliminary events to be held at four GDL locations events on Thursdays in June and July. Three performances from each event will enter the final competition on July 30, 2009 at the Baker Park Branch. Watch for more details later this week.

Each year the Youth Services Divsion of the Michigan Library Association requests our help in identifying the best books published each year. To qualify, the book must have been published between January 1, 2008 to December 31, 2008. Add your favorite title to the 2009 Thumbs Up Award nomination list. The list generated on the TeenFusion Blog will be forwarded to the selection committee.
